Speech and Drama

Lincoln/Douglas Debate-Value debate for one person. Must argue both sides of a topic. Is more basedon value/logic/philosophy rather than the amount of evidence evidence as Team Debate. Still has plenty of research and a lot of work in preparation.
Team Debate-Two members that debate on one policy topic all season. Must present cases for both sides of the topic. Includes lot of research, is based soley on evidence, each side must present a plan.
Original Oratory-Pick persuasive topic, write a speech, must be memorized. Purpose is to motivate someone, persuade, convince, or judge someone on side of topic. Good topics are those that the articipant is passionate about and that speak to a wide range of people. Time limit is 10 minutes.
Memorized Public Address-Pick famous speech, male or female, then make & memorize speech. Must critipue/analize and can quote no more than 10% of material. Time limit is 10 minutes.
Impromptu-A speech with no preparation except own knowledge. Given a quote or cartoon and 3 inutes to make a speech (allowed the use of a note card). Must be between 3-5 minutes.
Expository Speaking-An informative speech with posters. Competitor chooses topic. Should be memorized by divisionals, but is allowed the use of note cars. Cannot wear any sort of costume (lead to disqualification). Time limit is 10 minutes.
Extemporanneous Speaking-Speech prepared at the meet during a 30 minute period before each round, given on either domestic or internation issues (decided at meets/rounds). Preperation includes as much research as competitor bring on the 60+ topics. Must be between 5-7 minutes long. (Allowed a note card with outline)
Humorous Oral InterpretationPick and read a funny story/play (headl withing a binder). Must remain standing with feet planted, cannnot use hand gestures, but can use enunciation/ inflection/ move upper body (excluding hands) to portray humor.
serious Oral interpretation Same as HOI except serious story/play instead of a humorous story.

Humorous Solo One person acts out a funny skit. Time limit is 12 minutes.
Humorous Duo Two people act out a funny skit. Time limit is 10 minutes.
Serious Solo One person act out a serious piece. Time limit is 12 minutes.
Serious Duo Two people act out a seious piece. Time limit is 10 minutes.
Pantomime Mime; cannot speak, must act out a scene or event to music(cannot be vocal music).
Classical Duo Piece that must be written before 1918, acted out by two people. Piece can be humorous or serious. Time limit is 1 minute.
